About our Preschool Room

In our Preschool room, we aim to prepare children for Prep and Grade One. The Preschool room is a very structured learning environment, and a specific but flexible routine is implemented daily. This is to ensure a smooth transition for children who will attend school the following year.

Our room is divided into specific area of learning. These are:

Science and Maths

In this area, the children are experiencing “how things work”, doing simple experiments, as well as completing various Maths components.

Manipulative

This is where the children experience fine motor and cognitive development. This includes activities such as play dough, puzzles, threading, lacing etc.

Writing

This also develops fine motor and cognitive skills. This area has a wide variety of writing equipment available, and is where children experience and abundance of pre-writing activities.

Dramatic Play

This area offers children an opportunity to extend social/ emotional skills, as well as imaginative play. This includes dressing-up, cooking, bathing dolls etc.

Book Corner

This offers children a quiet area to have some time to themselves. It is also a pre-reading development area.

Construction Corner

This encourages fine and gross motor development, as well as cognitive and vocal skills. In this area wooden blocks are always available and construction activities are varied on a regular basis.

Creative

Various art and creative play activities are done on a daily basis. An easel is placed out each day for the children to use freely, as well as two other art activities daily. These range from structured to messy play. We have a very large variety!

Outdoor Play

This mainly aims to develop gross motor skills, although mat activities are offered on a daily basis. Art and group times are also held outside on a regular program.

Group Times

We have two group times daily.

The first group time focuses on our “All about today” chart, (days of the week, counting and weather), children names, explanation of the day's activities, and out daily “Good morning greeting song”.

The second group time focuses on out group concept we are working on for the month. This includes books, songs, rhymes, fingerplays, work sheets etc.

Overall, although we aim for the children to reach their developmental potential, we believe the children should have fun doing it!
